Democracy, University, and Barbarism

 


I don't expect anyone to believe me: I'm not writing for those who are guided by faith. Nor do I intend to start a debate: I know what I'm talking about, and I don't need group therapy. I speak of my work: university teaching. In the realm of "Humanities," university teaching is a futile job. It's useless. Not because the University is disconnected from the corporate world, no, far from it. It's useless because students (mis)labeled as university students, save for imperceptible exceptions, have no interest whatsoever in scientific knowledge. 

In some cases, perhaps the majority, they may have an interest in the ideologies that are imparted in our current universities. Ideologies, all of them, imported from foreign universities, whose vacuity has been taken in Spain as a model and example of modernity and progress. You may think I'm exaggerating, mistaken, etc. Keep thinking that way (for what good will it do to think about the University...). 

I don't write to convince the impotent. And, with all due respect, most readers are just powerless individuals in the face of the realities they read about and witness. They can do nothing. Because, also with all due respect, thinking is not doing. Having theoretical reason is not ...
